The scale problem

kalk_rohr What are scale deposits?

Water contains dissolved lime consisting of calcium and magnesium. The higher the concentration of these substances is, the more problems you will be faced with in your piping system. In areas with hard water the concentration of calcium in the water causes problems in private homes, in commercial buildings and on the manufacturing side, as well.

With a temperature rise or a change in pressure the ‘liquid lime’ crystallizes and adheres on surfaces. These hard incrustations always occur where water is heated, when it comes to turbulences at a joint for example or where it leaves the pipe.

The destructiveness of scale

Scale deposits inside the piping system, on heating elements or on expensive machinery will lead to the following damages:

  • High energy loss due to longer heating periods
  • Loss of pressure due to reduced pipe diameters
  • High maintenance and repair costs of appliances and machinery
  • Higher cleaning costs of kitchens and bathrooms

The longer you wait before taking action against this problem, the higher the repair costs for the damage will be. It is only a matter of time before the entire water piping system needs to be replaced and new appliances and machines need to be bought.
